Thoughts on a Poem

img_9499-2I stumbled onto this poem while reading random quotes online and it hits me. All my life I’ve been wanting to be invisible, to be a box, to run away from people and to hide myself. The first two lines it says ‘isolation is not safety, it is death’. And that is true. I’ve been there either consciously or subconsciously and it is ugly. The next two lines hit a chord. It hurts to exist and yet people don’t know you do. It hurts because no matter how much you think that it is best or easier for them you will feel like you are not welcomed.

I’m gonna skip to the last two stanzas and I really love this part. In my perspective it is telling us that in the end, people are the ones that matter. It is akin to saying ‘it is the people that makes everything better’. For example: if you are at a workplace doing mundane work, the kind that makes you crazy and bored, no matter how much you try to keep yourself positive, it will just put you down if your colleagues are bad. But if they are fun, encouraging and constantly include you in gatherings etc. working will be so much more meaningful and less boring.

Lastly, different people may have different reasons to want to be alone but humans are social beings. We need social interactions, we need people.
